More from the company basketball team. We are definitely struggling, but working on turning things around.

BUDGET CUTS: BUDGET BALLERS SLASH LEVEL
Embattled Team Drops to 0-3 for Second Straight Year
(For Immediate Release)

Arroyo Grande, CA –  The record is spinning…but unfortunately, it keeps playing the same tune. And its not a melody that sounds good to veteran Tom Adamski, who showed his obvious distaste during an 0-9 run early in the second half that all but put LEVEL on the shelf. “We just weren’t fundamentally sound tonight,” said Adamski, who in his sixth year with the team has endured a record of 11-42. “We made great progress last week against a decent team, but we couldn’t carry that progress into this week. No shooting, no boards, no defense…no bueno.” Adamski wasn’t the only one feeling the pain, as guard Miguel Castro was questioning a few things himself. “I picked the wrong night to debut my new Kobe’s,” he exclaimed after running a combined total of 6.7 miles up and down the court. “These kicks deserve better than that. I’m throwing down on NBA Live 09 tonight and taking no prisoners.”

And ‘better’ was what this team expected at tip-off time. By the time Mark “Sasquatch” Grondin’s feet returned to the ground after the opening jump, “Playground” Parks and Castro had already collaborated for the game’s first score. LEVEL then ran their lead to 4-0 before losing it two possessions later and never seeing it return. But seriously…how was that 4 point run? “We were dominant early…real early,” said veteran Phil Siems, who posted the game’s most impressive 3-point play. “But it seems like the momentum we had in the first 38 seconds needs to carry into the rest of the game.”

Down 5 at the half, LEVEL returned to the court flat-footed and saw their hopes of a win vanish quicker than a pizza left in the IT bullpen. “We played a competitive first half,” said Hank “Smiles” Wethington, LEVEL team manager and emotional team leader. “But we just got lax on D. And we just weren’t getting the ball to bounce our way. A lot of good looks turned into quick looks away when yet another shot rimmed out. We’ve got a good big man and quick guard play…can we please just find someone to help get the ball in the basket? Can shooters just hug?”

And maybe, just maybe, a hug is what is needed to get someone going for LEVEL. With Parks continually the top scorer, will Castro be able to regain his game 2 form and set the tempo on offense? Will Siems ever achieve the perfect archball? With either Wethington or Adamski just please make a shot? And can Hasegawa and Indra provide the kind of off-the-bench spark needed to get some points on the board and some hope of a win? “Great questions,” said Grondin after signing autographs for the opposing team’s girlfriends. “I think we need to reset our expectations on what ‘winning’ season means. For us, it should mean that we got a win that season. If we did that, I think we’re looking pretty good right now. That’s 5 winning seasons in a row, despite the fact that things are looking rocky right now. Now that’s something to be proud of.”

Rock on, LEVEL. We’re all waiting for the EP, the 7” remix and the reunion tour. Until then, a win will suffice – just to ensure that 6-0 run.
