VftR: a felled eucalyptus with the sun poking through. First run in my new Merrell Bare Access 2s. Included the dog tonight. Good thing I didn’t care about pace, as her stopping to potty would’ve driven me crazy.

8×25 second sprints with easy 1 min runs between. Ended with a 20 min normal run. This was taken at a cemetery between a stand of eucalyptus. Maybe about 40 grave sites.

No pictures of the road today. I went to the gym to get my training in. It’s not my favorite, but it has its place. Got on the spin bike for 45 minutes. So different than being on the road.

    No coasting
    No hills
    No scenery
    No wind

In other words, not cycling. I did push for a good workout. Concentrated on circles not squares. Worked each leg independently. In general, just sweated all over the floor.

After getting off the spin bike, threw my running shoes on and pushed for an 8 min/mile run at 2% grade. It’s so much easier to set the treadmill pace than to try and be focused on exact speed on the road. Luckily, I planned to only be on the treadmill for about 12 minutes as I bore quickly.

Don’t let the rain stop you. Some would say I should have just been on my bike in the rain, but right now I lack the gear, so the gym it is.

Graveside, A Monologue

Posted on 16 November 2012 | No responses

Back on 8/24/12 I was able to preform my monologue entitled Graveside to a packed house at SLO Little Theatre for No Shame. It was amazing to take the stage as an actor, which I have never done, and perform this piece. Thanks to Polished Productions for the recording, No Shame Theater for giving me an opportunity and SLO Little Theatre for giving No Shame a home, and all the people that gave me feedback on the script.

It did bug me that I was not off book (still reading the script) since I wrote it, but those of you who are actors know how stressful that first time is.

I’ll probably have this performed again, with another actor in it’s place so that I am able to see the areas that still need some work. Writing this was a lot of fun, but I think next time, I’ll try for something a little more comedy focused.

10,000 meters to clear my head tonight. Needed it too. Fantastic pacing. I felt strong and fast and the best part was felt like I could have run another 3 or 4 more miles.

Wins and Losses

On a day that started off with great health news (I’m officially below the threshold for obese on the BMI scale), I’m very emotional in how I’m dealing with some family medical issues and what it might mean for the upcoming months and possibly years. While I won’t get into the specifics right now, suffice to say that the emotional roller coaster I’m on has me wanting to fall back into the trap of comfort food eating.

What I need most right now is to get out and run, something I can’t do for a few more hours. In the mean time I’m surrounded by sugar, garlic bread, candy, crackers and a host of other bad eating choices and I want them all.

It amazes me how easily and quickly we can go back to bad habits. They don’t die; they jut stick around waiting for moments to destroy all that we work for.

While this is mainly about eating for me, the truth is that it happens everyday in business, relationships, drugs, etc. our bad habits and all the years we participated in them have set up mental highways so wide that when “lost” we want to get on a familiar road.

Today, I refuse. I will do what is right. I will listen to my friends, I will fall back on my training and I will not let my old habits rule the day. Join me!

National Stout Day

Here’s to celebrating National Stout Day! So yummy! Murphy’s is so smooth and easy to drink. I really don’t understand when people say dark beers are bitter. I think their taste buds are broken.
